So what did you all think? Great year for gaming imo, so much to choose from, with some fantastic titles out there. And as an addendum, what game might you be looking forward to most in 2008?
Personally, Id hand GotY to Call of Duty 4. Awesome in both single and multi player modes. Great storyline, managed to be both relevant and apolitical at the same time, with believable voicework, great characters (Capt. Price ftw!) and enough shocking moments to blow you away (the Nuking and endscenes were intense!). Just a complete game all around, with intense and exciting playthrough any way you go at it.
Honorable mentions-Halo3, Mass Effect, Bioshock and Assassin's Creed.
2008 most looking forward to-Well, besides the obvious GTA4, im going to go with the revival of a classic old PC game, Fallout 3.

For me its to close to call between COD4, Bioshock and Mass Effect each had great upside and very little downside.
Honorable Mention for me will be assassins creed.
I as well look forward to fallout 3 this year I really wants. GTA4, Saints Row 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Splinter Cell Conviction, Burnout Paradise, Fable 2 and many more

2 honorable mentions none of which are tops, but i enjoyed the hell out of:
The Darkness, Ninja Gaiden Sigma.
GotY, I guess Halo 3.

I'd have to go with COD4 but honorable mention to Halo 3, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation (I'm a flight junkie), Mass Effect, and Orange Box.
I'm really hoping MGS4 finally comes out.

Is that gonna be PS3 exclusive? Was hearing rumors awhile back that it might get ported over to the XBox as well, would love for that to happen. Snake in a box!!

Magazines keep bringing up clues it won't be exclusive but Kojima (Creator) has came out and said that it will not be on any other system other than ps3 several times so I would not count on it making a 360 appearance.

Don't count on it. Portal seems to be a one-off game. I'm sure we'll see expansion packs, but I doubt very much a sequel will ever be made.
That said, I think Half-Life 3 (not HL2 Episode 3, though HL2E3 will tie in with Portal apparently) has a good chance of incorporating the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device.

Those rumors are back but I mean.... I bought MGS2 Substance for $20 when it was less than a month old on XBox. Then some big glasses drooling dork was telling me how great Splinter Cell 1 was in comparison. I honestly don't think you M dolla guys like Metal Gear like us Sony dudes do. I mean it's almost like you'd need to get a petition going to get it on the box again. Also getting TONS of signatures and sending it to Kojima productions is key.
Good luck...
Game of the year: COD4
Next years game I can't wait for: MGS4.

Yeah it will be PS3 exclusive despite the rumors, it can only be on the PS3 because the DVD format won't be able to handle all the information that is on the game.

Yes Valve has already said they are working on putting the portal story to mix in with the half-life universe so you can more then certainly expect a sequal to tie the end of portal and maybe city 17 or other together. Also the game has been selling commodities like crazy why not make another when its selling like hotcakes? It may not be exactly like current portal because of story but I can bet you portal gets its own storyline going.

It's most likely a PS3 exclusive. But never say never. MGS2 was a PS2 exclusive, but little known to most people, there was a MGS2 port to the original X-Box as well as PC that received little publicity.

MGS2 was never actively billed as a PS2 exclusive. It was just a sequel to a Playstation game appearing on the sequel to the Playstation. It's very difficult to say "MGS4 will go to the 360 because MGS2 went to the Xbox."
Show me an MGS3 port and we'll talk about the chances of MGS4 on 360. Until then, it's just wishing and hoping and praying by a bunch of fanboys who are angry that they have to buy more than one console.

I think you misinterpret what I'm saying. I'm not saying MGS4 WILL ABSOLUTELY 100% GUARANTEED go to the 360 because MGS2 went to the Xbox. I'm saying, never say never. Anyways, perhaps the low sales of MGS2 on the Xbox played a factor in MGS3 not being ported over. Probably figured porting it wasn't worth the production costs. But I do remember MGS2 was actively billed as a PS2 launch exclusive. And never underestimate a company's desire to turn face and make a quick buck. I don't really care where MGS4 lands as I've got both consoles though it was much sooner that I anticipated (bought a 360 then won a 60GB PS3 at a frat party less than 2 months later).

MGS2 sold quite well. Don't forget that Silent Hill 2 was ported to the Xbox as well. It was a token symbol of support of Microsoft on behalf of Konami.

There will be nothing "quick" about a 360 port.

Not quite well on the Xbox. That got relegated to the bargain bin very fast. And few have ever noticed its existence.
Considering the 360 is much easier to program for, it'll be quicker than going in the reverse direction. And trust me, if Konami makes the decision that 360 is the way to go, they'll devote a good amount of resources in porting the game.

IF and only IF they where ever to decide to port it will be when mgs4 sales are slowing down and they feel there is still high demand for it on xbox 360 but I would not count on it to much.

I haven't played it but based on reviews Game of the year probably would have to go to call of duty 4. Bioshock gets second and third place goes to the contending game that I've actually played which is Assassin's Creed.

Call of Duty 4 it has to be, although I don't know if I would call the single player experience enjoyable. It was way too intense, but is certainly one that won't be forgotten in a hurry. It's the incredible attention to detail, rich characters and deep multiplayer mode that make this game so brilliant.
Assassins creed? Meh, it was great for a few hours but was damn repetitive. I actually enjoyed Kane and Lynch, despite the negative reviews. The gameplay was a bit clunky but the great characters and story kept me playing through to the end, although in no way am I saying it should be a game of the year contender.
I am a fairly casual gamer, the nature of my job means I don't get a hell of a lot of time to myself but the game I enjoyed playing most this year was The Darkness. I'm amazed it's not getting any consideration because I thought it was absolutely brilliant in every area.

No, it won't. The 360's ease of programming for only plays in if you're building a game from the ground up. A port is a completely different beast--you've got to take code optimized for a completely different platform and re-do it. In many ways it's worse than making a game from scratch regardless of the platform, because you're trying to make an accurate re-creation of a product that had no regard for the other platform's capabilities or lack thereof.
Don't let yourself get fooled. A port of MGS4 to the 360 will be a major project undertaken only if Konami sees absolutely no other choice. (I suspect a nice dump truck of money from Sony will mollify Konami if it absolutely comes down to that.)

According to some of my friends in the game programming business, it's vice versa, unless you really want to be discreet and passionate about giving it perfect quality. The mantra for most companies is do as good as you can then slap it out for production. It's one of the reasons some believe is the cause of the glitches in the PS3 version of Assassin's Creed.
It probably would be a major project and I believe if PS3 doesn't begin to rocket in sales, Konami could see it as no alternative if they want to reach a bigger audience. They are denying it again and again. But people remember how Assassin's Creed was declared a PS3 exclusive that jumped to multiplatform after weeks of Ubisoft's denials. I do believe Konami is serious about its PS3 only status but I also believe they can change their minds if the numbers don't add up so never say never. That's all I'm saying, it's only speculation right now.

It's Metal Gear Solid. You're damn right that any port is going to be given as much attention as necessary, especially if the point is to get more money. If Konami was interested in releasing something "just good enough," we'd already be able to buy it.

There's no parallel between Assassin's Creed and MGS4. Different company, different mentality, different setup altogether. But at least you didn't whip out the tired RE4 example.
"Game X was kinda-sorta announced exclusive but got released multiplatform" in no way is proof that Game Y will follow the same path. There is no cause and effect relationship there.

Yea, if Kojima were helming a port, he'd want quality over everything. But if he isn't (he has stated he's no longer involved in MGS after Guns), things could be different. Though MGS Portable Ops Plus didn't really seem like a finished product or any innovation to me.
No cause and effect relationship but certainly has precedent.

He said that MGS2 was his last MGS game; then he was involved with Substance; then he said MGS3 was his last game because the team wasn't ready to make MGS games without him; then he was involved with MGS3 Subsistence; then he was involved with MGS Portable Ops; then he was involved with MGS4, even going so far as to say that "without Portable Ops, there is no MGS4."
The man may want to get away from Metal Gear and make original IP like Lunar Knights and Snatcher, but "this is my last Metal Gear game" has been repeated about seventeen times now.

True, but you never know when he may actually be serious (which I hope he never is).
He's been serious this entire time. Every time he said "this is my last Metal Gear game," he meant it. Circumstances forced him back to the director's role: first the team wasn't ready to make games without his direction, then an opportunity presented itself to end Solid Snake's story.
The fact that Kojima is so intent on making this Solid Snake's last game means that he's trying his hardest to close the book on any and all plot threads so there's no excuse for him to come back for MGS5.
There will not be a port of MGS4 to the 360, and if Kojima has his way, he won't be back for any future Metal Gear games.

I think the numbers will probably add up. Even if they didn't for some reason, Sony would likely just pay them off b/c it wouldn't help PS3 sells if consumers see that PS3 couldn't keep a big exclusive. But as I said, I doubt there will be a problem with sales of MGS4. I know I'm getting it.

IMO it's the best hockey game I've ever played.
Sure, it has major flaws (some of the ratings are terrible, roster management is a bit of a choir sometimes, too many hit posts and the puck leaves the ice surface resulting in a face-off WAY too much) but the game play is stellar. I'm big time addicted.

Havent actually watched much hockey on TV since graduating from college 3 years back though, I likely wouldnt know half the names nowadays

I would have to go with CoD4 also. It's amazing that Ubisoft made a game that great... and it's MULTI PLATFORM. People are used to great games being exclusives. The developer can make a very good game and only have to worry about 1 console. But they released CoD4 on the 360, PC, and PC and it's awesome on each.
Honorable mentions go to Bioshock, Mass Effect, and The Orange Box.

errrr yeah!! I knew that! I'm The Mor!!! :ffic: :hi5:
Seriously though... I swear that Ubisoft logo was popping up when I load the game. I might confusing it with Assassin's Creed.

 Most likely assassins creed. Which by the way I can't wait for a sequel to since the engine is done they should be able to focus more on the gameplay and make the sequel better than the first which rarely happens but we can hope.

Mannnnn....
I am going to have to go against the grain on this one and go with either Bioshock or Mass Effect.
COD4 was awesome....BUT....it felt like the Ghost Recon series....and COD2.....and so on and so on...
It was awesome and had great moments but GOTY? Hrmmm.....

CoD4 and Halo 3, not for me in particular, but i think the masses created the most hype about those 2 and i dont think many people were let down about it either

God of War 2
Good choice. I couldn't put that one down until I finished it.

Does that game ever let up? It's like one big "Final board/finish/ending" throughout the entire game. Love it.
